Akabanebashi : That’s Japanese For Expensive

Akabanebashi : That’s Japanese For Expensive

Time for another installment of ‘Around Tokyo’ and this time we are in Akabanebashi 赤羽橋! Why you may ask? Well, besides the fact that it is pretty close to Roppongi and where Tokyo Tower is located, I was scouting locations for a future magazine shoot with a new client. The place is full of scenic backgrounds and I wanted to make sure I had some great locations mapped out before the clients flew in to Japan. After checking the area, I decided to wander around and see what else I could find.
Right away, I ran into this vintage Corvette Sting Ray just sitting in a random parking lot.
I later found out that the parking lot belonged to a high end detail service shop which was working on a classic Rolls- Royce Silver Shadow I at the time
As I pushed onwards, not more than 3 blocks away, I spotted this bright orange Porsche sticking out of a tiny alley
Upon closer inspection, I realized that it was not just an ordinary Porsche, but a Porsche Ruf RT12. Each one is manufactured to the customers individual likings such as suspension and engine setup. Therefore, they have the ability to empty out ones wallet with a price tag of nearly 300,000 USD…. Damn. The price we pay to go over 200 mph
Once I got closer to Tokyo Tower and the spot I marked on my map as a possible shooting location, I just happened to run into this GT 86.
The owner decided to go with the ‘Panda’ styling. However, instead of just black paint two tone panda, its carbon fiber.. Lots and lots of carbon fiber.
The trunk, rear window louvers (which I really only see on Mustangs), side mirrors, canards, the hood… everything is carbon fiber
‘Built by Passion, not by Committee!’ It kind of says it all doesn’t it?
Walking back to the train station, I happened to walk by the Audi dealership. They had a couple of R8’s out back and just decided, what the hell. It always surprises me what you will find just by wandering around the city. With the weather warming up and more shoots on the way, don’t be shocked to see more of our mini installments of ‘Around Tokyo’!
